Following a Science degree at the University of Malta in 1994, Prof Godfrey Grech pursued studies at a Masters level in the Faculty of Medicine, specializing in Molecular Genetics. In 2002, he began doctorate studies at the Erasmus Medical Centre in the Netherlands, where he spent four years researching the Molecular Control of Leukemia. During this time, he published in high-impact journals and presented at international conferences, including the American Society of Hematology and the European Haematology Association.
Currently, Prof Godfrey Grech serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology within the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Malta. His academic responsibilities include coordinating an MSc in Biomedical Sciences and acting as the principal investigator of a research group focused on studying the molecular mechanisms of haematopoietic malignancies and solid tumors. Through joint ventures with commercial partners who license the use of Intellectual Properties (IP), he facilitates the clinical translation of research outcomes.
As a lifestyle program innovator, Prof Godfrey Grech has launched various programs aimed at targeting chronic inflammation of the intestine. These programs incorporate a test-based approach and a series of lifestyle interventions designed to restore gut health, hormonal balance, lipid balance, and microbiota balance to address chronic inflammation.
Prof Godfrey Grech is an active member of several international organizations, including the International Scientific Council of the European Group for Molecular Pathology (EMP), the Scientific Committee at the European Medical Association (EMA), the European Lifestyle Medicine Organization (ELMO), and the European Association for Predictive, Preventive & Personalized Medicine (EPMA). Through these affiliations, he works to formulate educational programs in Molecular Pathology, harmonize molecular protocols, organize quality control programs, define organizational rules for tissue banking, and establish a bioethical platform in Molecular Pathology.
